Adams decarboxylation

What is Adams decarboxylation?

The Adams decarboxylation process involves coumarin acids (2-oxo-2H-chromene-3-carboxylic acid), which are decarboxylated by heating them with aqueous sodium hydrogensulfite, NaHSO3. Following this step, the resulting compound is treated with concentrated alkali or acid.
