Arens-van Dorp synthesis

What is Arens-van Dorp synthesis?

The Arens-van Dorp synthesis is a method used to prepare alkoxyethynyl alcohols from ketones and ethoxyacetylene. In the Isler modification, the complicated preparation of ethoxyacetylene is avoided by treating β-chlorovinyl ether with lithium amide. This produces lithium ethoxyacetylene, which is then combined with the ketone to create the desired product.
