Bourgel alkyne synthesis

What is Bourgel alkyne synthesis?

Bourguel discovered this reaction in 1925. The Bourguel Alkyne Synthesis involves the synthesis of alkynes through the treatment of 2,3-dibromo-1-propene with a Grignard reagent, which results in the formation of a 3-substituted 2-bromo-1-propene. This compound further reacts with sodium amide NaNH2, and the reaction typically yields alkynes in high quantities.

Additionally, utilizing sodium amide in the final step offers the benefit of potentially isomerizing internal alkynes to terminal alkynes.
