Catellani reaction

What is Catellani reaction?

The Catellani reaction involves the use of norbornene as a mediator and palladium as a catalyst for cross-coupling, which enables the ortho functionalization of aryl halides with alkylaryl electrophiles.

This reaction yields o,o’-disubstituted vinylarenes and uses norbornene, which, however, does not become part of the coupling products. Additionally, the aryl iodide can be replaced with alkyl halides, such as chloride.
