Delépine reaction

What is Delépine reaction?

The Delépine reaction, also referred to as Delépine amine synthesis, is a chemical process used for the preparation of primary amines. This reaction involves the reaction of alkyl halides with hexamethylenetetramine, followed by acid hydrolysis of the quaternary salts formed. The reaction was named after the French chemist Stephane Marcel Delépine (1871-1965), who first described it in 1895.
