DIBAL-H reagent

What is DIBAL-H reagent?

DIBAL-H, short for diisobutylaluminum hydride (also known as DIBAL or dibal), is a versatile molecule that can act as a reducing agent, Lewis acid, or co-catalyst in various chemical reactions such as Ziegler catalysis, hydrometallations, Tishchenko reaction or Oppenauer reaction, and de-O-alkylation of sugars.

DIBAL-H can also enhance the hydrogenative power when used in conjunction with ZnCl2.

Furthermore, non-activated C-F bonds can be defluorinated by DIBAL via the aluminum cation [tert-Bu2Al]+.
