What is Frankland-Duppa reaction?

The Frankland-Duppa reaction is a chemical process that results in the formation of α-hydroxycarboxylic esters. This reaction occurs when dialkyl oxalates react with alkyl halides in the presence of zinc or amalgamated zinc, and acid is added to the mixture.
