Hooker reaction

What is Hooker reaction?

The Hooker reaction involves the oxidation of 2-hydroxy-3-alkyl-1,4-quinones using dilute alkaline permanganate. This results in a reduction of the length of the alkyl side chain by one methylene group. Additionally, there is a simultaneous exchange of positions between the hydroxyl and alkyl or alkenyl groups.
