What is Kröhnke aldehyde synthesis?

The Kröhnke aldehyde synthesis, also referred to as Kröhnke oxidation, is a chemical reaction that converts activated halides into aldehydes. This process involves the use of pyridinium salts that are transformed into nitrones upon treatment with p-nitrosodimethylaniline. Upon hydrolysis, the nitrones yield aldehydes or ketones.
