Mentzer pyrone synthesis

What is Mentzer pyrone synthesis?

The Mentzer pyrone synthesis, discovered by Mentzer in 1946, is a method for synthesizing pyrone or flavone derivatives through the reaction between phenols and β-ketoesters or malonates. Typically, this reaction is carried out by heating the mixture at high temperature for a prolonged period.
