The Mukaiyama aldol reaction is a chemical process that leads to the formation of β-hydroxy ketones. This reaction occurs by reacting silyl enol ethers or ketene silyl acetals with aldehydes in the presence of a Lewis acid, such as titanium tetrachloride, TiCl4, tin tetrachloride, SnCl4, or boron trifluoride etherate, BF3OEt2.
