The Noyori asymmetric hydrogenation is a process that involves the homogeneous asymmetric catalytic hydrogenation of olefinic and carbonyl bonds. This is achieved through the use of enantiopure ruthenium(II) BINAP (2,2′-bis(diphenylphosphino)-1,1′-binaphthyl) complexes as mediators. The substrates used in this process must have coordinating functionalities in neighboring positions, which act as directing groups during the transformation.
