Schiff reaction

What is Schiff reaction?

The Schiff reaction, also known as the Schiff base reaction, is a chemical reaction in which aldehydes react with aromatic amines under basic conditions to form a class of compounds known as Schiff bases.

This reaction is particularly useful in organic synthesis and analytical chemistry, as Schiff bases have a wide range of applications such as in the production of dyes and pigments, as well as in catalysis and biological research. Additionally, the Schiff reaction is an important tool for identifying and quantifying aldehydes and aromatic amines in various samples.
