What is Stobbe condensation?

The Stobbe condensation is a chemical reaction that involves the combination of aldehydes or ketones with diethyl succinate in the presence of a potent base, leading to the formation of monoesters of α-alkylidene (or arylidene) succinic acids. This process is named after the renowned German chemist, Hans Stobbe (1860-1938).
