What is Strecker sulfite alkylation?

The Strecker sulfite alkylation, also referred to as the Strecker reaction, is a chemical process that results in the formation of alkyl sulfonates. This is achieved by reacting alkyl halides with alkali or ammonium sulfites in an aqueous solution in the presence of iodide.
