What is Suárez reaction?

The Suárez reaction, also known as Suárez fragmentation or Suárez cleavage, involves the photoinduced conversion of hydroxyl-containing substrates with hypervalent iodine I(III) I2, resulting in the formation of the corresponding oxygen-centered radical (see list of acronyms).
